If you are considering entering a ministry, you may wonder if you can make a difference. Throughout history, women have changed towns, communities and even nations with their willingness to serve. Here is a look at a few of them to inspire you.

Phoebe

One of the first leaders of ministry that was mentioned in the Bible was Phoebe in the New Testament. She was only mentioned in Romans 16: 1-2. Such a small passage does not mean that her contribution was small. In fact, many historians believe that Paul probably met with other Christians in her home. She was called a deacon and a helper of many, implying a large sphere of influence in that day.

Catherine of Siena

Born in the 14th century, Catherine of Siena was dedicated to the church and ministry. She was also a theologian and scholar. She put feet to her faith by helping the poor and going to hospitals and homes to help those in need. She was accused of heresy because of her work but found innocent. Instead of subduing her, it drove her to seek reform for the church.

Christine Caine

This Australian has tackled a serious issue in modern society by advocating for the rescue of girls who are being sold and trafficked into slavery today in Eastern Europe. She is the founder of the A21 Campaign, which works to end trafficking and starts shelters for its victims. Her book, Undaunted: Daring to Do What God Calls You to Do, shows how God uses Christians in unlikely ways.

Beth Moore

One of the most recognizable names in Christianity today, Beth Moore is a Bible study teacher as well as author of numerous books and public speaker. She teaches women how to develop a real, close relationship with Christ. As a woman who has overcome the effects of childhood abuse, she encourages women to reach their full potential and overcome insecurity issues. She has written numerous books that are used in Bible study groups and for personal growth, including So Long, Insecurity; Looking Up When Life is Looking Down and Discovering God’s Purpose for Your Life.

What do these women have in common? They all seek to know God and bring His love to others. They are not afraid to be outspoken, daring and to serve where needed, no matter the cost. They found their purpose and stepped into the role that God had created for them. Were they ever afraid, unsure or discouraged? I’m sure they were. They have all suffered from criticism, fought obstacles and overcome all of the negativity along the way. They all chose to live a purpose-filled life serving God and others. Can we do the same?
