You walk into a job interview and hand over your resume. The recruiter looks through it, noticing prior employment and education. They then determine if you are a good fit for the job because of your skills and experience. If not, they pass you by and move on to the next applicant.

Aren’t you glad God isn’t like that?

He calls you for a job and then He equips you for it. He’ll use your history and special talents you have, but He will never turn you away because you aren’t the right “fit.”

Examples from Scripture

Just look at the women of the Bible and how God used them.

Esther was known for her beauty, which I’m sure included inner beauty as well as a lovely face. She was the king’s favorite, probably as much for her winning personality and intelligence as her physical features. God used her beauty to get the king’s ear when her people, the Israelites, were in danger. It’s doubtful that the king would have listened to her if she didn’t have an intelligent argument and persuasive ways, but she saved an entire nation because she answered God’s call to her in that place and time.

Then, there’s Ruth, a stranger in a foreign land who became a widow at a young age.  Loyal and tenacious, even when her mother-in-law would have sent her back to her own home, she was determined to stay in the place she felt called to be. God used this experience and her personality to become part of the lineage of Jesus.

Of course, you shouldn’t forget about Mary. A young girl, who was humble and God-fearing, was given the greatest task in the history of the universe. She was destined to be the mother of Jesus. But have you ever thought about the fact that she was just a normal girl, planning for marriage with hopes and dreams of her own? Yet, she was willing to be used by God even though she felt inadequate for the task.

Be Usable

God has a purpose for every woman!

He will never turn you away because you aren’t a brilliant speaker or because you didn’t grow up in the church. He will never pass you by for someone else who is more qualified. In fact, the Bible says that He uses the humble and lowly for His purposes. Why? Because then it is much more evident that God has accomplished great things rather than you doing it on your own.

Regardless of your background, it doesn’t matter who you used to be or what has happened to you. In fact, God will take those things and use them to accomplish His goals. In the end, you’ll see why He chose you and how your background helped you to follow His call. But for right now, He doesn’t ask you to understand why He is calling you.

God only wants you to hand Him your resume and say “I accept” when He offers you the task He has planned for you.
