I know that we feel great sympathy for the parents of the children in Newtown, and count ourselves fortunate that we can only imagine our own anguish. Yet in 98 days, thousands are dead.
No, this is not a plea for gun control. This is a plea for the people of God to remember the words of Jesus when asked by His disciples about the suffering boy:
…this kind does not go out except by prayer and fasting.
We face so many issues in our country that is difficult to even grasp them, much less begin to address them. Yet there is no battle that must not first be fought and won in the spirit. And there are no issues to be faced that cannot be met and overcome with spiritual revival. God has promised us this in II Chronicles 7:14:
When I shut up heaven and there is no rain, or command the locusts to devour the land, or send pestilence among My people, if My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.
Revival begins when we care less about the sins of others and are compelled to weep over our own.
We are still praying and fasting.
