Being involved in ministry doesn’t take a lot of special skills. Anyone can find a place where they can help out, a role to fill. If you look at the Proverbs 31 woman for inspiration, you will notice three traits that she possessed that are important in managing your life while being involved in any ministry. Those three traits are worth cultivating for any woman who wants to impact her world.
Diligence
The Proverbs 31 woman was diligent in all of her efforts. The Bible says she got up early to begin working. She understood the concept of hard work. She was faithful to her tasks.
In many ministries, you will see opposition. It may come from other ministries or outside organizations or it may come from those you are working with or the recipients of your ministry or even circumstances. Many times, they will try to discourage you or they may even try to stop you if they don’t agree with your ideas or your approach. A woman who is diligent in her ministry will keep working even when things don’t happen according to her plan.
Organization
The Proverbs 31 woman had to be very organized. She managed a household with a husband and children, and she still found time to help the needy and make business decisions. Perhaps it was because she got up early to get everything done, but she knew how to ensure that things were working efficiently. The one verse says she considered a field. This indicates that she thought about purchasing the land and decided it was a good business decision before following through. She may have taken a day or two or read over the numbers to make sure she wasn’t making a poor decision with her money.
We all know how things go when we are hurried and make hasty decisions. To ensure that everything works smoothly, we must be organized. For some, that may mean getting up earlier, while others may need to delegate tasks to have time for it all.
Compassion
The Bible says that the Proverbs 31 woman stretched out her hand to the needy. She had compassion. When she saw a need that she could meet, she did something about it. While she was busy with her own family and household, she didn’t turn a deaf ear to others who were hurting.
People who want to get involved in ministry must look outside their own world and have compassion for the people they see. They are the ones who put money in the buckets of Salvation Army bell ringers at Christmas. They see individuals who are in need instead of just a group of homeless people. You cannot truly be involved in ministry unless you get your heart involved.
If you have these three traits or can develop them, you will discover that you can find the right place in ministry that fits your personality and background.
