We are often too caught up in the day-to-day tasks and routines to ponder such a question. The mundane and the necessary override the important. But if you were to be asked “why are you here? Why did God create you?” what would you say?

To Do His Will

You may give an answer, “To do His will,” or something similar and vague. But why You? He could create anyone to do His will, so why did God create you and put you on earth? To find out that answer, you must look at what He says in His word.

Jeremiah 1:5 says “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations.”
Psalms 139 says that God knew all of your days before any one of them had occurred.

Ephesians 2:10 says “For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.”

These verses tell us that God created us with a purpose in mind, a plan for us from beginning to end. Good works that He had already decided on.
Because of this, He gave each of us certain talents, skills, personality traits, and characteristics that would enable us to do what He had planned for us.

What’s even more astounding is that He knew all of the things that would happen to us and prepared beforehand how they should be used to accomplish this same purpose that He had prepared for us.

  • Paul grew up in a strong religious home where he knew the rules and laws and was dedicated to following them; he later became just as dedicated to following Jesus.
  • Harriet Tubman was a slave whose experience ignited a passion to free others, causing her to become one of the conductors of the Underground Railroad during the mid-1800s.
  • Elizabeth Elliot lost her husband as a martyr to the Auca Indians and used her testimony to help strengthen others’ faith.
  • The daughter of one of the best-known preachers of the past century, Anne Graham Lotz had her own battles with infertility and miscarriages, as well as depression. Those experiences influenced her own ministry with AnGeL Ministries where she works with other hurting women.

These are just a few people that God had plans for and used both good and bad experiences to mold them into the people He prepared to do His will. How has God shaped your life and what experiences have you gone through that you can use to do His will?

Remember, nothing you do or go through is wasted. God has a plan for you and if you follow His will and keep your eyes open, you will find out the plans that He laid out for you long before you were even born. It is up to you to fulfill those plans.
